Personal Tax Return Checklist

All documents for your tax return can now be sent to us via your client portal, using the upload function. Please get in touch if you'd like instructions on how to do this.  

Please download the Individual Checklist and fill in all the relevant details to provide to us in order to prepare your annual tax return.

Income:

  • PAYG Payment Summarie(s) or group certificate(s) - these may be available via the ATO & MyGov now
  • Statements of any allowances, Centrelink benefits or pensions
  • Details of interest received on bank accounts
  • Dividend statements
  • Crypto statements - we recommend using a service like Koinly, which takes all your crypto trading details and prepares a tax statement including all the details needed for Australia tax requirements
  • Rental property statements from managing agent or details of any rental income received - click here for a full list of all details needed for rental properties
  • Details of any income from a trust, partnership or managed fund
  • Details of any income earned through sole trader activities - if we do not already have access to your business' accounting program, you can download a spreadsheet to record your sole trader income & expenses here

Deductions:

Please note, your deductions must have a connection to your income earned. If any costs were reimbursed by your employer, the cost it is not deductible on your tax return.

  • Car log book and details of car running costs or mileage details - for a full breakdown of how to claim motor vehicle deductions, click here
  • Details of any other business or work-related travel expenses
  • Receipts or details of any business or work-related expenses, like stationery, subscriptions, home office, tools, briefcase, computers/software or union fees
  • Details of any income protection insurance expenses
  • Receipts or details of any uniform/protective clothing expenses
  • Receipts or details of any self education expenses related to your work
  • Receipts or details of any donations/gifts
  • Details of any interest, dividend or investment deductions, ie. investment advice costs
  • Invoices or details of cost of tax preparation for last year’s return
  • Details of rental property expenses and rental property statements, including interest on any loans on the property - click here for a full list of all details needed for rental properties

Offsets & Rebates:

  • Statement of private health insurance
  • Details of spouse’s full name, taxable income, tax file number and any super contributions
  • Number and details of dependants
Purchase or Sale of Assets: 
If you purchased assets, please provide - 
  • purchase of shares - purchase document & details for brokerage fees paid
  • purchase of investment property - settlement sheet, front page of purchase contract, details of legal fees paid 
If you sold assets, please provide - 
  • sale of shares - sale document & details of brokerage fees paid
  • sale of investment property - settlement sheet, front page of sale contract, details of real estate agent commissions and other costs  

Other:

  • Statements of any HELP/HECS debt or Financial Supplement Loan
  • Copy of previous year's tax return if not prepared by us
