Your Easiest Tax Season Yet: Introducing Our Essential Tax Checklist!
We're excited to reintroduce our individual tax return checklist, now in its second year of helping you streamline the process of gathering your tax return details.
This editable checklist isn't just another form; it's a standard and essential tool for all individual and sole trader clients, designed specifically to make your tax return smoother, faster, and more accurate.

Why a Checklist? It's All About Efficiency!
You might be wondering, "Why do I need a checklist?" The answer is simple: efficiency and accuracy. Our comprehensive checklist covers potential items that might be relevant to your tax return. So don’t worry if some of the points don’t apply to you, just fill in everything relevant and tick No for items that don’t apply. Note: Where you tick “YES”, you must provide all relevant documents and details to include it on your tax return.
Our primary goal with this checklist is to significantly speed up the time it takes to complete your return. Here's how it helps you:
- Less Back-and-Forth: By providing us with all the necessary information upfront, we can drastically cut down on follow-up emails and calls. Imagine getting your return done with fewer interruptions!
- Catching New Details: Your financial life evolves, and so do your tax needs. This checklist acts as a prompt, helping us identify new details you might not have had in previous returns or might simply forget to mention. For example, it will help you consider:
- Changes in employment: Did you change employers, receive Employee Share Scheme (ESS) shares, or did you start or stop working as a sole trader partway through the year?
- New work habits: Are you working from home more or less often now?
- Work vehicle: Did you buy a new car for work purposes, or did your work use of your car change significantly this year?
- Extra super contributions: Did you make any personal contributions to your superannuation that might be deductible?
- New investments: Did you purchase new shares, cryptocurrency or an investment property during the financial year?
- Life changes: Has your marital status changed, or have you welcomed new children into your family?
Keeping Your Details Current: It's an ATO Requirement (and It Helps You!)
Did you know the ATO requires that your contact details are always current? As your registered tax agent, it's also an ATO requirement that we hold up-to-date contact details for every client for whom we lodge a tax return.
Our yearly checklist helps us fulfil this obligation by allowing us to update your information directly from the details you provide.
More importantly, keeping your details current is crucial for you because potential refunds can be delayed if the bank account details on file with the ATO are incorrect. The checklist helps us ensure everything is accurate, preventing any unnecessary hold-ups with your refund.
Don't Miss Out: Declare All Income and Claim All Deductions!
You can't declare what we don't know about, and you certainly can't claim deductions for expenses we're not aware of! The checklist is designed to:
- Maximise your claims: make sure you don’t miss any possible deductions, in order to get the best tax result
- Prompt Your Memory: Use it as a guide to consider what might or might not be deductible for your specific situation. It's a fantastic tool for jogging your memory about all those little expenses throughout the year that may slip your mind after 30 June.
- Ensure All Income is Declared: It helps you remember to include all sources of income, ensuring your return is complete and accurate.
- A Smoother, Speedier Process: Every year brings changes, and one year is rarely the same as the last. By providing us with comprehensive and up-to-date information, you can have your return completed more efficiently and speedily.
